Furballed is funny, witty, and beautifully drawn. I loved the illustrations and the charming wit that made the personalities of these pets pop out of the page. The side notes of where her inspiration derived from was also comical and intriguing. This is a great book for all ages and definitely for all of the animal lovers out there that knows exactly where this author is coming from. My daughter is 8 years old and has absolutely fallen in love with this comic; I'm 31 and I have too. It's relatable and will keep you smiling even after you've finished reading. This book is very fresh and entertaining. I really like that it mixes the everyday hijinks of a group of pets and their owners with more exotic characters like the Space Bunnies. It is funny and refreshing and showcases a comic that would do well in any newspaper in the country. It is certainly a great improvement over some of the comics in my local newspapers. I follow it online every day, and the author's explanations and comments in the book on how the strip came about have further enhanced my enjoyment.
All the characters are really funny and I like Hope, the black cat, and the other cats on there. Your newest character, the big dog with the chewing problem is also funny along with the long haired male dog they turned into a female. That alone was funny and the revenge he did to his owner cemented him as comic relief.
Hope getting stuck in the doggy door made my day because of the way she was pouting and the cat taking advantage of her pickle by putting a wide load sign on her back.. Hilarious!
This is a great comic and I highly recommend it if you like animals or just want to see what funny predicaments they get themselves into!
Furballed Large and In-Charge is a very funny, refreshing, entertaining comic book that could be in any newspaper in the country on a daily basis. It's so interesting to see how the author brings out the personalities of each of the animals. Her comments re the fact that each of these characters is based on one of her own pets lets one know that she has a lot of experience to draw on. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to read comics.
First off,let me apologize for that horrible review title. I was trying to be witty and I failed. However,this book is definitely funny. As a longtime fan of Garfield(both the comic and tv shows),I enjoy comics involving animals. So Furballed looked to be right up my alley. Furballed lets you into the life of Buck and Gina,a normal but sometimes quirky couple. What isn't normal is their wide variety of pets. Their three dogs,two cats,and two guinea pigs are always up to some sort of shenanigans making life very interesting in the house. Plus there are two squirrels,Buck's Dad and his dog,and some space bunnies thrown into the mix to add the the hilarity. This book definitely lived up to my expectations. It is funny,smart,and charming. The only thing I would say this book is missing is a donkey because donkeys are funny. Even without the donkey though,I definitely suggest picking up this book if you're an animal lover or a person who just loves comics about animals. You won't be disappointed.
Furballed is a delightful read. The characters remind me of my own pets and the author has clearly put a lot of thought into them. I especially enjoyed reading the additional comments in the book about the characters and their real-life counterparts. The relationships among the pets are entertaining and these comics can be enjoyed by all ages. I look forward to seeing more from Furballed, especially the space bunnies!
Wilson perfectly captures the charm and quirks of pets and their owners. She is awesome at throwing in little bits of pure whimsy that makes you look twice and laugh out loud. Going beyond a simple comic, Wilson lets you sneak a peak at the stories behind the characters, and share some of the sketches that inspired the final project. I highly recommend this to art students, pet lovers, and heck, anyone who could use a good laugh!
Learning about the author's life through clever and hilarous comics, the audience feels connected to the creator on a deeper level than just a laugh. I can honestly say that after reading this book I am inspired to recreate these characters in my own life through comparisons and contrasts. Buck, Gina and the gang are just too real and great to read about and the author makes the readers feel like they know the characters personally. My favorite character would have to be the diva dog Hope! As I have a dachshund of my own, I feel like I can really relate to all the funny antics she tries to accomplish throughout the comic. If you're looking for a novel with tons of imagery that will have you laughing and thinking about your own amusing pets, Large and In Charge is the book to pick up and read!
